We had a pretty busy week. We met with some new people that seemed
interested. One of them in particular is JJ. I contacted him on the
street my first week in Toronto and was just barely able to meet him
this week. When we met, he was really excited to meet us, and he was
talking about how he met me 3 years ago. I was really confused, until I
realized that he was talking about another missionary with my same
Chinese last name, haha. JJ is from Southern China, but is already
Christian with a strong belief in God, and really wants us to help him
strengthen his faith in Jesus Christ. I'm excited to continue to meet
with him!
We had a cool experience with another
investigator named Arella. She is Buddhist, but is really curious about
our religion. She has a Mormon classmate in her college class she often
talks to, and the last lesson she shared with us that whenever she
talked with us or her classmate, she feels a different, peaceful
feeling. We watched "The Restoration" video with her, and she said that
as she watched it she got those same peaceful feelings again. We were so
excited when we heard that! Although she still doesn't fully accept
that those feelings come from God through the Holy Ghost, I believe that
she will eventually come to realize this for herself as we continue to
meet with her.
One thing that we have been
focusing on with our investigators, recent converts, and less-active
members is family history work. This past week was the Toronto Stake
Conference, and Elder Carlson of the Seventy was there. He gave a
magnificent talk about family history, and how, after centuries and
centuries of anticipation, now is the time when the Lord has given us
temples all over the world to perform saving ordinances for our
ancestors. He said, "When we attend the temple with our own family
names, it is temple worship as the Lord intended- the hearts of the
children are indeed turning to their fathers."
It
was awesome to see the Lord touch the hearts of a few of our
investigators this week, allowing them to be more receptive to our
message and to the promptings of the Holy Ghost.
