Week 91: God bless Brother Bai!

Our investigator Brother Bai showed up at the very end of English class on Saturday. We started teaching him how to say a prayer in English. Just as we were explaining how to say "in the name of Jesus Christ, amen," he stops and asks, "Are you hungry?? Let's go eat. I will take you to eat lunch." So he takes us to this SUPER Chinese plaza we didn't even know existed, with all these traditional dragon decorations. I felt like I just walked into a scene of Mulan. This little 70 year old man was so excited show us around to all the different Chinese shops! It was really funny! Chinese people are very loyal. If you gain the trust of especially older Chinese people, they will want to do anything for you. Later that day, Brother Bai came to a baptism and really enjoyed it! He still doesn't see the need to be baptized again, but he feels really good at church and loves the people. :)

We also had another Chinese guy named Wei who showed up to ESL! And he came to church the next day! Many miracles recently :)

President Shields was talking this week about the miracle of the translation of the Book of Mormon... Joseph Smith, with basically no education, translated around 9 pages per day everyday without stopping until the whole book was finished. Anyone who reads the book can tell there is no way that is possible unless it was by the power of God. As I've been pondering and studying about it, I realize more and more the miracles that came about, many through the Prophet Joseph Smith, that came about in the early days of the gospel being restored. One of Brother Bai's member friends was showing him the movie of the restoration, and he was so moved by how much Joseph Smith had done for the work of the Lord. While that knowledge doesn't replace gaining a testimony from reading the Book of Mormon, it sure does support Mormon 9 about miracles happening today. I truly have a testimony that Joseph Smith is the prophet of the restoration.

Zone council picture!
We have a tradition of everytime both companionships who live in our apartment achieve the standards of excellence for the week, we take a picture with a "standards cake". We've both hit standards the past few weeks, so this is the first of many pictures. :)
Different angle :) The other two elders are Elder Flake and Taylor. They are the zone leaders for Brampton. They live with us. It is so much fun! They are hilarious! And yes...we get to eat the cake! :) And we chose to wear turbans because we are in Brampton, full of Indians. Stay tuned next week for our next standards photo! :)
